Display cases often encounter...
Retail showcases create a fundamental tension. Customers see the product behind glass but cannot access detailed information without assistance. Paper tags go stale. Digital screens block the view. Staff availability becomes the bottleneck.
Museums face a similar challenge. Artifacts and their context exist in separate spaces—the object in one place, the explanation on a wall panel nearby. Visitors must look back and forth, breaking their connection with the piece.
Transparent displays address this by placing information directly onto the viewing surface. The glass becomes the screen. Background content appears to float over the physical object behind it.
Where are transparent display cases used?
Tiffany & Co., New York
The SoHo flagship replaced standard vitrine glass with transparent LCD panels in select jewelry cases during a 2023 pilot program. Customers can tap the display to view gemstone specifications, designer notes, and styling suggestions without waiting for a sales associate. The system pulls product data from the existing inventory database.
Smithsonian Institution, Washington D.C.
The Ancient Egypt permanent exhibition integrated transparent screens into sarcophagus display cases. Visitors see excavation photographs, conservation process documentation, and hieroglyph translations overlaid on the actual artifact. Touch interaction is disabled—content cycles automatically to maintain traffic flow during peak hours.
DFS Group, Heathrow Terminal 5
Duty-free cosmetics and accessories displays use the technology for multilingual product information. Reduces dependency on language-specific staff during international flight peaks. Content updates push from Hong Kong headquarters to all global locations simultaneously.
Model selection
Two standard panel sizes. Touch and non-touch variants available for each.
| Application | Recommended Configuration |
|---|---|
| Jewelry, watches, small electronics | 27×10" with touch. Fits standard counter vitrines. Capacitive touch allows customers to browse specifications independently. |
| Cosmetics, promotional displays | 27×10" media player variant. Built-in storage loops video content without external hardware. Lower cost than touch version. |
| Museums, large-format retail | 42×23" standard. Greater viewing area for detailed content. Commonly paired with motion-triggered activation. |
| Luxury retail, design-sensitive environments | 42×23" with custom enclosure. Wood or metal frames available. Finish matching to existing interior specifications. |
| Trade shows, temporary installations | Either size with floor stand. Casters included. No permanent installation required. |
Content guidelines
Dark backgrounds are essential. The product behind the panel is the focal point. Use pure black or very dark backgrounds so displayed elements appear to float. Gradients and patterns compete with the merchandise.
Reduce information density. Standing shoppers will not read paragraphs. One message per screen: price, key feature, or promotion. Detail pages belong behind a tap, not on the primary view.
Motion should be subtle. Gentle fades between content work well. Aggressive animations draw attention away from the physical product and create fatigue during extended viewing.

Common questions
Does the panel require backlighting for the product?
The panel has its own backlight for displayed content. The product behind should be lit with standard showcase lighting—same as any glass vitrine. No additional equipment needed.
How complex is installation?
Floor-stand units are ready out of box. Built-in installations require a cutout in existing cabinetry; we supply CAD drawings for your millworker. For orders above 20 units, on-site technical support is available.
What about outdoor use?
